Long Hair Do Care

So quite a few people do ask me if I wear extensions and the answer is no, I don't. Although my hair is coloured (alot) its 100% real. Ever since I was small I've always had long hair and I'd feel abit lost without it so this is just a simple post on how I keep my care in the best condition I can and how achieve perfect curls without any heat.

I've posted previously about using Coconut Oil as a moisturiser but I also use it to condition my hair and stop it from becoming dry. Coloured hair can become very dry and brittle, especially if you lighten or bleach your hair which can cause split ends and in the worse case complete breakage all together. I think I am quite lucky as my hair is very fine, thick and very strong but that doesn't mean that I don't use conditioning masks and oils to keep it extra bouncy and soft. I use alot of Coconut products including Palmers Coconut Oil Formula Deep Conditioning Protein Pack with added Vitamin E, it smells amazing and is really rich and luxurious, the perfect treat for your hair. You can buy in small packs for £1 and it doesn't have an sulfates or parabens! This company also sell shampoos and conditioners. I also use products from Bleach London and Touch of Silver to stop brassiness.

How I achieve my Hair Friendly, Heatless Curls

Step 1
Before you go to bed place your bendy rollers into sections of your hair. I use 4 XL rollers and part my hair in the middle but its up to you where you place them, I've always put them in this way so its just a force of habit. If your baby hair is pocking out, like mine is in the photos, don't worry too much about it as it won't show up once you've styled your hair just make sure that any really long strands are wound in.

Step 2
In the morning simply take the rollers out and begin to separate the curls into whatever size you prefer for the style you are wanting to achieve. If you look at the second photo you can see that I have taken a small section of hair and am winding it around my finger, this gives the curl more definition and strengthens it - I've often found that if I don't do this the curls will not last as long and aren't as nicely shaped and controlled. If you are wanting more of a uncontrolled curl simply shake the curls out with your hands as this creates lots of volume and looks amazing.

Step 3
Once you've separated the curls run your fingers through the roots of the hair and gently fluff up your parting so that the hair is nicely blended as you don't want to see where you've separated all the curls. Fluffing up your parting also stops the hair from laying flat on your head and gives you volume, this will be needed as the rollers do squash the hair down quite abit due to where they are placed.

Step 4
Place product on your hair if you want to but I always find that the less you have the better. The curls do drop slightly but in my experience they will last me all day! And there you are, easy, heat free curls for healthy, happy bouncy hair!

Extra Information and Tips
  • Your hair must be completely dry before placing in the rollers.
  • There are many different sizes of bendy rollers but I prefer using larger ones as they give you more of a loose curl/beach wave look. However smaller rollers do hold the curls better but will be alot tighter in shape - if you have gone for smaller rollers but want your curls to drop quicker gently style your hair in a large, loose plait as I've found that this loosens the curls but does not damage them.
  • Don't put your hair into a bun to protect the curls as this will change the shape of them (and trust me they will go a very strange shape) just try to keep out of any windy or damp conditions. If you're really worried about them dropping you can put your hair in a very loose bun to protect them but try to only keep your hair in this style for a brief period of time.
  • If you're wanting curls but need them within a certain time, keep the rollers in for as long as you can before you go out. Normally the curls set after about 2-4 hours and they work best on newly washed hair.
