Hey babes, hope you're all having a lovely weekend! I've decided to do a little post on my new makeup routine for more fancy occasions - a party, an evening out with friends. I took these photos before going to a family friends book launch celebration and after party, although I literally had about 30 minutes to get ready haha! But I hope you like it.
So I started with my base of liquid foundation by the Body Shop so I have an even surface and complexion before starting with my contouring. (Please excuse my bare eyes and lack of lip colour as I always leave them until last!)
I brought this contouring kit about a month ago and I absolutely love it! Sadly the 2 lightest shades are already running out which are the best highlighting colours I've ever come across! I absolutely love this palette and I'll definitely be buying a new one.
Place the lightest colour on these main areas for the best highlighting effect:
I also always put abit on the tip of my nose, the corners of my eyes and just above my jaw line.
To really make my skin glow I also used a pearl illuminating powder (find it here). I gentle applied the product to these main areas above, paying more attention to the cheekbones cupids bow, brow bone and inner eye corner. But be sure to not use use too much as you want to achieve a healthy glow, not like you've just been down the gym. ;)
Now take one of the darker shades and place directly underneath the cheekbone following its natural shape. Place a hint of colour under the jaw line and temple area.
For a more dramatic look or if you feel you need abit more definition go over these areas with a powder product. I use Barry M's Contour Kit:
Handy Tip
If you're struggling with exactly where to contour I always find that if you stand infront of a window, or source of natural light it really helps you to see exactly where the most highlighted areas of the face are, this also gives your makeup the most natural look possible.
Once your contouring is done continue with your regular makeup regime. For this look I curled my lashes and then applied 2 coats of mascara to really thicken and lengthen my eyelashes. I then used a natural pinky, red lip liner on my lips and finished with abit of gloss and voila!
Step One
Before
I brought this contouring kit about a month ago and I absolutely love it! Sadly the 2 lightest shades are already running out which are the best highlighting colours I've ever come across! I absolutely love this palette and I'll definitely be buying a new one.
Step Two
Place the lightest colour on these main areas for the best highlighting effect:
- under eye area
- along the top of your cheekbones sweeping upwards to the temple area
- brow bone
- middle of forehead
- cupids bow
- & chin
I also always put abit on the tip of my nose, the corners of my eyes and just above my jaw line.

Use the bronzer on all contoured areas mentioned above (step two) and then to really make those cheekbones pop use the darkest shade in the kit and gentle sweep it under the contoured area. A helpful tip I always use is to fan out my blusher blush and then apply the contour colour - as this will add the colour to the exact area where you want it and will help to perfect those new chiseled cheekbones!

Step Four
Hair
As you can see in these pictures I've got hair curlers in haha! So be sure to take them out before you leave the house. I used 3 large foam, wire hair rollers. I placed one in the top section of my hair and the other 2 at the back, I do have a blog post on this, Long Hair Do Care, but in that one I've used 4 (link here). I've recently started using this technique of using 3 as it does not leave kinks in the hair where the roller has sat as the hair is pulled back, this also gives more root lift.
I absolutely love these things as they work wonders, the curls stay in all day and they don't damage your hair. If you've got dyed hair like me then theres nothing worse than heated tools so if you love having volume and curls then be sure to buy some of these!
Step Five
Get Dressed and Have Fun!
