I decided to do a few blog posts about my trip to Bulgaria as we visited alot of places whilst we there and it just seemed a shame to put everything into one post, and also, this way I get to share even more photos with you. After we came back from Burgas we explored the part of the city where the university is and got to see the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral Church and it was stunning.
Whenever I see places like this I always wonder why we don't build things this way anymore, yes modern architecture can be very fancy looking, and very beautiful but can you imagine seeing more architecture like this? I suppose though, like everything, one begins to be unappreciative and maybe seeing buildings as beautiful as this more often would make them less special (although how you would get used to looking at something so stunning I don't know but that's just me). I love old buildings and architecture I really find it fascinating, especially all the detail.
I would have loved to have shared with you what it looks like from the inside but you were not supposed to take photos, people were but I just felt that it would be wrong too. And anyway, some things are better when you just see them yourself, and I won't ever forget this Church. The ceilings were so high, and even though it wasn't a sunny day the light from outside was still shining through them, and all over the walls waere hand painted portraits and amazing details. There were huge chandeliers hanging in the centre of each area and there were areas either side of the hall where you could place a candle. It was quite dark in the church but the light there was was really something, the candle light just seemed magical somehow and the atmosphere was really calming.
When we left the church we walked through a small park towards the university with a view of the Church behind us with it's gold roof shining above the trees. The university was yet another beautiful building and had large white pillars marking the entrance. I also got to see the library on our walk back to car too. Everywhere you looked there was incredible detail on many of the buildings, as well as statues - whether that be of art or historical people.
