Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted in a while but I've recently been away, in Bulgaria! And it was amazing! The cities of Sofia and Burgas, the food, the culture - Bulgaria is truly a beautiful place and if you haven't been there already I really recommend a visit! Keep reading for what we got up to and our journey there with my fear of flying.
Nessebar
I'd visited the old city of Nessebar in 2014 with my parents in the middle of the summer so it was a completely different experience seeing it "out of tourist hours". It was quiet, picturesque and just even more beautiful then I remember and what made it even better was that we had the whole place to ourselves!
It was so peaceful here, I could have stayed for hours especially looking out over this view. We were so lucky that the sun was shining everyday during our trip, I couldn't have asked for more.
Friday was our last day in Burgas but we'd had an amazing time. During the week we'd been to another spa, been to fancy bars including a karaoke club, gone out to dinner alot, explored nearby towns, gone for walks on the beach and I'd even learned some Bulgarian - not that I was very good at it but it was quite amusing for everyone else I think haha! :P
Sunday arrived and unfortunately it was time to say goodbye but hopefully not for too long! This was truly a wonderful holiday and I can't wait to visit this beautiful country and all the lovely people again.
More posts about where we ate and other adventures will soon be on the blog so don't miss them!

Sofia
Our Journey & First Few Days in the City
We arrived at eight o' clock at Sofia airport, after a 2 1/2 hour flight. It went very well and I'm so proud of myself for just managing to get on it, even though I was terrified but I couldn't have done it without my travel buddy. Once we landed we were met by my boyfriends brother who kindly picked us up and we stayed with him and his girlfriend in their apartment for the next 2 days. The next day, at a rather early start (not forgetting the 2 hour + time difference) we set to explore the city of Sofia. We went to restaurants, lots of really cool bars where we drank fancy cocktails, explored the malls, saw the university, visited the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral Church and of course, devoured alot of amazing food over the week; of course including my daily shopska salad! It's so good!
On Tuesday we set off to Burgas, the town where Chris grew up and we stayed at his grandma and grandpa's house, which is also the house where he grew up too! They were so kind and welcoming, his grandma had also knitted me and my mum a pair of socks, she was so sweet.
Burgas
The Grand Hotel Spa
Unfortunately I couldn't take any pictures in the spa itself (iphones and canon cameras don't tend to mix well well with water) but it was such a beautiful place. There were flowers and fountains everywhere and all the floors were pale marble. We were given gowns to wear and these little wrist bands which looked like watches, these remotely unlocked our lockers and all the doors to access the spa, it was really cool! The pool was all lit up and was this amazing dark blue, it was placed in the middle of the room surrounded by pillars and had a large, high ceiling. There were massage rooms on the left and 2 types of jacuzzi's on the right - one of which was deep enough to stand up in. There was also another area of the spa that had 2 sauna rooms, a steam room, an aromatherapy room, a salt water pool and plenty of areas for simply sitting down and relaxing. The spa also offered massages, manicures, pedicures and lots of other spa treats.I'd visited the old city of Nessebar in 2014 with my parents in the middle of the summer so it was a completely different experience seeing it "out of tourist hours". Goodbye Burgas
The car journey back to Sofia was 3 hours but we stopped along the way, we even had a little lunch which Chris' lovely grandma had made us to nibble in the car. Once we arrived in Sofia we headed straight into town and later went out to dinner with his brother and one of their friends. And then after our meal the 4 of us headed to check out the night scene and we ended up in a heavy metal bar which was actually pretty cool; I'm a person who likes most music but I've never particularly listened to heavy metal before so it was certainly an experience! But in a good way.
For the weekend we mainly just relaxed and went shopping for a few little treats to bring home. We met up with Chris' aunt and cousin for lunch and went to the coolest little cafe with the most amazing cakes I think I've ever seen and then for dinner, went to a traditional Bulgarian restaurant where I don't think I've ever eaten so much food in my whole life! It was so good!
